Sexual Assault/Abuse

Just as I have said previously, there is no one reaction to child sexual abuse, but there are some very common feelings and experiences. Reading about these and talking to people who truly understand can be very validating!

The most terrifying experience for any parent is to learn that your child has been hurt! Learning that your child has been sexually abused brings with it a flood of emotions and questions.

In many countries, including the U.S., sexual coercion and aggression is seen as a given. Women are expected to control sexual interactions as "gate keepers" and are held responsible for men's sexual desires. This dynamic results in women being blamed for sexual assault.

Many do not realize the common co-occurrence and interplay of these forms of abuse and control.
