Madai Maldanado, MS, LPC, RPT

I am a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) with extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with an emphasize in School Guidance and a Master’s of Science in Counseling and Development with an emphasize in Mental Health Counseling.

I specialize in working with children and adolescents alongside their parents. I am a Bilingual and have experience working with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorders, grief and loss, self-esteem, life transitions, or have suffered from sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse or any other traumatic event. I believe in a holistic, emotional approach to counseling and often achieve this by incorporating experiential modalities, such as expressive art techniques, sand tray, and guided imagery in my practice.

As a play therapist, I utilize Child- Centered Play Therapy. This is an effective approach that allows children to process challenges and communicate using their natural language of play. Play therapy is a process in which children are given the opportunity to work through past or current difficulties. In addition to individual therapy, I provide therapy groups for parents using Child Parent Relationship Therapy (also called Filial Therapy). I highly value the parent's involvement in the therapeutic process and enjoy building a strong parent-child relationship.

My goal is to create an environment that is welcoming, values trust, and provide support and understanding. I strive to create a safe and nurturing atmosphere in which individuals can be supported in their efforts to change and grow as well as become reconnected to their strengths and dreams.
