Allison McKinney, MS - Supervised by Mae MacIntire, PhD, LP

Hi! I’m Allison McKinney (she/her/they), and I’m a practicum therapist here at Lotus. I received my master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman’s University and am currently completing my PhD in Counseling Psychology there. I have two years of experience providing counseling to adults navigating a wide range of life experiences and challenges.

Therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and figure out what you want your life to look like moving forward. I especially enjoy working with people navigating life transitions, questions of identity and belonging, neurodivergence, trauma, and those times when you feel stuck, unmotivated, disconnected, or like you don’t quite fit where you’re supposed to.

I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to help you better understand yourself while offering support, curiosity, and (when helpful) a gentle challenge. I take an integrative approach, meaning that I draw from different therapeutic approaches and tailor our work to you rather than expecting you to fit into a particular method. I’m particularly influenced by acceptance and commitment, relational, and attachment-based approaches, and I pay close attention to what happens between us in the therapy room because I believe our relationship can be an important part of the work.

I practice from a multicultural and feminist perspective, which means I believe our identities, relationships, communities, and the larger world we live in all shape how we experience ourselves and our mental health. Most importantly, I want therapy to be a space where you can show up as your whole self without having to perform, explain, or pretend to have everything figured out.

Wherever you are right now, we can start there.
